Join us for the launch of Portal by Filmmaker Lucy Barker in collaboration with Ascendance.
The film captures the magical rehearsal process of Ascendance's "Dance with Parkinson's" class, featuring experimental 360 footage taken across Saltaire's World heritage locations. It begins in the grand rooms at Victoria Hall and moves to the cobbled Yorkshire ginnel where the professional dancers joyfully jump from wall to wall, through to the canal with the towering mills overhead. It then concludes in a party in the bandstand, filmed one year ago on one of the coldest and windiest days of last winter before we went into lockdown.
This is a celebration of the remarkable dedication of a community of dancers who still dance together on zoom.
This screening is a 2D presentation of the film with a 360 version to be released to film festivals this year. The project, originally conceived to be launched as part of Saltaire Arts Trail, and tour to community art spaces in 2020 as a virtual reality trail, was sadly halted due to the Pandemic, but we dream of when we can return to complete this project later this year.
With thanks to Arts Council England and Leeds Inspired for funding this work.
