PARKINSON'S DANCE CLASS
We (my wife and I) love coming to the Thursday dance class with Rachel. It is a very good dance class and you can feel yourself getting fitter with every week that you go. You must keep as supple as you can with Parkinson's Disease (PD) and the exercises Rachel gives us do exactly that. In its own way the routines are quite demanding, but you can 'take 5' any time you need to. Rachel's assistant Izzy also comes up with some great routines.
Just as important is the social side and Rachel has worked hard to encourage communication between class members. As a result we're very close, though still inclusive and welcoming. It's good to know that there is a group of people out there who care about you.
When lockdown was imposed, we worried about missing the group but Rachel came up with the ZOOM programme on computer and it's proved to be a great success. Everybody 'attends', we all get just as good a work out, and we get to see our friends too. It took some of us a couple of weeks to get used to the concept, but now we're all old hands and actually we have improved our IT skills. We cannot wait to get back to our actual physical class, but in the meantime the ZOOM class keeps us going and keeps us all in touch.
