In 2018 we launched a Dancing with Parkinson’s programme across Leeds & Bradford; establishing 4 regular groups and a series of taster workshops throughout Yorkshire.
We have introduced over 250 people with Parkinson’s to dance and have engaged 75 regular participants per week in our groups across the region, which has had positive health & wellbeing outcomes.
Here are some comments from our participants.
‘The exercises are ideal for our conditions, they are within our limitations yet stretch us too. The teacher adapts the course to suit the participants’
‘It has brought us both together and made us feel more positive‘
‘The whole group is lovely – supportive and friendly, makes us both feel less isolated. Thursday afternoon is now fun for both of us; I benefit from the exercises both physically and mentally‘
“I feel that the physical workout is doing me good and making new friends has been a boost. It also feels good to be doing a physical activity with my partner. It is one of the highlights of our week. “
“Everything about the class helps; the room, the light, the view, the dance teacher, the volunteers, all the other participants. The choice of music is uplifting – no patronising.“
Here are some of our favourite moments of the programme since we launched the pilot programme in 2018.
